Stöppler, M.D. Updated May 25, 2019 Augusta, Georgia is a relatively quiet southern city located about two hours east of Atlanta on the South Carolina border, but once a year during the annual PGA Tour Masters Tournament, this city becomes a destination hotspot for golfers and golf fans alike. If you've managed to find tickets to the Masters, finding a place to stay in Augusta, Georgia should not pose a problem: while hotels are often booked months in advance, you should be able to find a home for rent from the thousands of Augustans who flee the city during Masters Week. Lavish homes can fetch $20,000 or more for the week and are often rented out by sponsoring companies, while more modest homes can be rented for around $500 per night. However, if you're booking well in advance, you may also be able to score a room at one of the hotels in the historic Summerville district known as "The Hill" or along the River Walk downtown. Major hotel chains like Holiday Inn, La Quinta, Sheraton, and Sleep Inn also have a variety of offerings in and around Augusta — if you book far enough in advance. Booking a Hotel for Masters Week The ideal time to book a hotel for Masters Week is at least six months before the opening day (the tournament takes place in early April each year). That means hopeful visitors to Augusta, Georgia should start looking for hotels well before November 1, and ideally before April 1 of the year before they plan to attend the annual tournament. The most charming hotel in town, the Partridge Inn, can be found in the old historic district of Summerville, known as "The Hill," and can be contacted via phone at (706)737-8888; another popular choice is the Marriott on the River Walk downtown, which can be reached via phone at (706) 722-8900. Major hotel and motel chains are all represented in Augusta, including Sheraton, Quality Inn, Amerisuites, Wingate Inn, Sleep Inn, Econo Lodge, Hampton Inn, Courtyard by Marriott, Holiday Inn, La Quinta, Ramada, and more. Renting a Home for Masters Week If you want to go the rental home route, the Masters Housing Bureau (800-244-4709 or mastershousing.com) can assist in finding a house that meets your needs. But keep in mind this option is much more expensive and requires about the same amount of planning as booking a hotel room. Another alternative is to check the classifieds section of the Augusta Chronicle newspaper. Many residents offer homes and rooms for rent even on a last-minute basis, especially because a number of Augusta residents leave the city every year to avoid the traffic and congestion associated with all the golf fans present during that week. This option is great if you are planning on traveling with a large group of friends or coworkers, and some rental homes offer discounts to known companies that cover the tournament. Be sure to check out the tournament website for more information about visiting Augusta as several accommodations are offered through the official website of the Masters Tournament.
