Tom Gatch is a former writer for ThoughtCo, who wrote about saltwater fishing, Californian oceans, boating, and cartography for two years. As a third generation San Diegan, Gatch has spent over half a century fishing in saltwater for a wide variety of gamefish species.

Gatch's work on saltwater fishing in California and Baja has been featured on the Baja.com, San Diego Reader, and Baja Bound websites, and in periodicals like Sport Fishing Magazine and Big Game Fishing Journal. His "South of the Border" column appeared for over seven years in southern California’s maritime newspaper, The Log.
