Phillips has more than 20 years of experience in environmental biology and remediation work. Her PhD work coincided with acting as project manager for benchscale studies in soil bioremediation at Adventus Remediation Technologies in Ontario. 

Her master's thesis project studied the mutagenic effects of nitroaromatic compounds, potent human carcinogens. Her doctoral thesis work involved studying bioremediation of a soil containing high concentrations of Lindane and related chlorinated compounds. Subsequent post-doctoral projects were in the areas of both biomedical research at the London Regional Cancer Centre, Ontario, and environmental molecular genetics at KAM Biotechnology in British Columbia.

Phillips is currently a practice leader at the consulting company Pinchin Ltd., where she oversees environmental risk assessment. Previously she was a senior toxicologist at exp Services Inc. in Ontario.

Education

Phillips earned her PhD in environmental biology and her master's degree in biochemistry and toxicology from the University of Guelph in Ontario. She holds her bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry from the University of Waterloo.
