The Inversion Method for Hair Growth

It's Not Instant But It's Close

There's never been a shortage of "quick hair growth" gimmicks, schemes and products. You know the hype: before and after pictures showcasing the back of a woman who seemingly grew inches of hair overnight. Most people know that's unrealistic, but it still doesn't stop many of us from sitting up and paying attention when a company makes claims of instant hair growth.

One of the latest hair growth crazes making its way among the hair-obsessed is the Inversion Method.

How Does the Inversion Method Work?

Like the term suggests, you invert yourself, or just your head. This increases blood flow to your scalp and stimulates the follicles, apparently resulting in quicker growth. Don't worry if you can't manage a handstand; you can hold your head upside down over the side of your bed.

The claims are that following the method will result in one inch of hair growth in a week. Now, knowing that the average rate of growth is 1/2 inch per month, this incredibly quick growth certainly sounds attractive to someone who wants longer hair right now. But does it work?

That depends on who you ask; fortunately, there are plenty of women around the 'net who've tried it and reported positive results.

If you're ready to see if you're one of the lucky ones, you only need some hair oil and a comfortable place to invert yourself. Lying on your back so that your head hangs over the side or end of your bed is how many people do it since everyone isn't able to do a handstand or doesn't own an inversion table.

Alternately, you can sit in a chair and bend forward from the waist so that your head hangs between your knees, or stand and bend over, touching your toes if you can.

After warming up a small amount of oil (coconut, jojoba oil, grapeseed or Jamaican Black Castor Oil are good choices), thoroughly massage it into your scalp and then invert yourself.

This should be done twice a day for several (three to five) minutes at a time. Follow this routine for seven straight days. It's advised to leave the oil on your scalp for a minimum of two to three hours afterward, but you can still shampoo or co-wash after that if desired.

Should You Try It?

At the very least, this is a method that won't cost you a bundle, unlike buying a load of hair vitamins or growth potions. It also doesn't take a lot of time. However, please keep in mind your general health if you choose to try it. If you're pregnant or suffer from any medical conditions, it's best to either stay away from it altogether (pregnancy) or consult your physician. Remember, your overall health is much more important than any hair growth! As long as you're in good health and don't mind experimenting, go ahead and give this method a try. If you feel dizzy or nauseous at any time, STOP inverting and slowly get back into an upright position.

How Do I Know if it Worked for Me?

Measuring your hair can be tricky, and is one of the reasons you may misinterpret your results. Before beginning an inversion week, take measurements from several sections of your head. This could be the center of your nape, directly in front of the ears and the middle of your crown.

Enlist help if needed so that you get the most accurate measurements. At the end of the week, measure the same areas and see if this method worked for you. You might want to use one of those tee shirts designed to help women measure hair growth since these products already have marking lines on them, making them easy to use (and you don't have to break out your own ruler!). Even if you don't experience a full inch of growth, any gains should be celebrated.

Why Can't I Do This Every Day?

Naturally, some people see good results and instantly want more. After all, if you can expect an inch of growth in a week, you'd be well on your way to butt-length hair within several months, right? Not so fast. The more often you practice inversion, the more your body becomes used to it, just as it becomes used to the same foods if you eat them over and over.

For that reason, as well as health concerns, it's recommended to only do a one-week inversion session once per month.
