The only exception was in 2006 when the game was played in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia, due to the massive damage to the Louisiana Superdome caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The first edition of the Sugar Bowl was played the same year as the first year of the Orange Bowl, making these two games the second-oldest major bowl games in college football. Only the Rose Bowl, first played in 1902, is older.
