Stephen Hufford

Introduction

Steve Hufford is a life-long competitive racquet sports player (tennis, squash, court tennis) who has enjoyed over 38 years on court. He currently coaches squash at a private school and a sports club.

Experience

Stephen Hufford is a former writer for ThoughtCo, contributing articles on racketball and squash. Steve is certified by US Squash as a level one coach and club-level referee. With over 22 years team play (at Dartmouth College, in Philadelphia, and in Washington, DC), Steve has attained US National Rankings in C, B, and 5.5 skill level divisions and in age level divisions 35+, 40+, 45+. 

Steve began his racquet sports career with seven years of competitive tennis play (during secondary school and in college) and was a member of the Virginia High School Championship tennis team. He is currently an assistant squash coach at The Potomac School. 

Education

Steve played tennis and squash while obtaining academic degrees in biology and ecological sciences from Dartmouth College and Duke University. He has taken numerous lessons and learned coaching techniques from many fine racquet professionals, and received quite an extensive on-court education at the hands of his opponents and partners.

  • National Capital Squash Racquets Association Sportsmanship Award in 2005
  • Thrice represented the Washington DC area in the Whitney Cup intercity doubles competition
  • Twice competed in the Noll Cup (consolation winner in 2006, winner in 2007)
