9 Podcasts for Volleyball Coaches

The popularity of podcasts is nothing short of explosive. Now more than ever, there’s compelling, quality content out there that you can access with just a smartphone. And for busy coaches on the go, podcasts provide the opportunity to tap into a wealth of information or inspiration while you're traveling, driving or just between practices. Just like websites or books, there’s a a ton out there, so here are just a sampling of some of the volleyball focused ones.

Technical Timeout: A podcast created specifically for volleyball coaches, Technical Timeout aims to find a way to inspire you and to make you want to get in the gym pronto. Why? Because each episode brings you a successful volleyball coach who shares what they have learned on their coaching journey, the drills they do with their players and the resources they use to keep improving.

Coach Your Brains Out: Hosts John Mayer (2015 MVP of the AVP, head coach for LMU Beach Volleyball), Billy Allen (AVP Pro, head coach for Mizuno Beach Volleyball Club) and Nils Nielsen (Indoor and AVP Pro, head coach for Windward High School in Los Angeles) have pulled in some serious guests to share their volleyball wisdom, which include the likes of Phil Dalhausser, Joe Trinsey, April Ross, Trevor Ragan, and Ryan Doherty. 

Volleycast: Joe Trinsey and David Hunt co-host a podcast about all things volleyball, with special emphasis on the stories and formative moments in somebody’s playing or coaching career. Episodes are posted weekly on Monday mornings, with a follow-up on Thursdays.

The Net Live: The first all-volleyball internet radio podcast, the Net Live hosts Kevin Barnett (2x Olympian and NBC Anchor or the Beijing Games) and DJ Roueche (Official DJ for the AVP & Music Director for the Los Angeles Clippers) want to bring listeners great stories and interviews from the volleyball world. Since the show’s inception, they have talked with some of giants in the sport like Misty May, Karch Kiraly, Kerri Walsh, Doug Beal, and Hugh McCutcheon.

The Tip: A podcast with and about some of the best volleyball players from around the world. Hosted by Dallas Soonias (former member of Canada’s National Team) the show is less of an interview and more of a shields down conversation between two athletes about the in's and out's of their craft.

Sports Coach Radio: Every week this podcast offers in-depth and insightful interviews with leading sports coaches, sports scientists, exercise physiologists and team performance directors. If you want to understand how to bring out the very best in athletes – from a wide range of elite sports – SportsCoachRadio.com is a good tool for learning, discovery and professional development. While there are volleyball specific interviews, it caters to a wide array of sports as well.

Invisibilia: Launched in January 2015, Invisibilia (Latin for “all the invisible things”) explores the intangible forces that shape human behavior – things like ideas, beliefs, assumptions and emotions. Co-hosted by NPR’s Lulu Miller and Alix Spiegel, Invisibilia delves into a wide array of human behavior, interweaving narrative storytelling with new psychological and brain science.
