These Are The 5 Trends To Embrace This Fall

F. Scott Fitzgerald once wrote, "Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall." We have always felt that way, especially when it comes to getting dressed. Fall feels like a time when you can reset your style, try out new things and give your whole wardrobe a total refresh.

This year, there are quite a few new fall fashion trends worth exploring, depending on your personal style. While a pleated midi skirt might not be for everyone (the length can be tricky!) or a pair of mid-calf block heel boots (also tricky!), there are quite a few that anyone can try no matter your personal style, age or size.

In the slideshow ahead, we've outlined our five favorite fall trends for 2016. From unexpected metallic pieces to velvet—it's time to get autumnal.

Something Velvet

Velvet in all its forms is definitely one of the biggest trends of the season. The best part? It doesn't matter how or where you wear it—as long as you do. From velvet platform shoes to ankle boots, blazers, dresses and pants, there's really no wrong way to rock this 90s revival fabric.

Mules! It may seem a little weird at first, mules are basically an elevated version of a bedroom slipper. You don't have to go so far as the above fur-lined Gucci mules, but a pair of backless flat slides should be at the top of your fall shopping list. We love how they look with a pair of cropped black slacks for the office, or with straight leg jeans on the weekend. You can find a pair of mules that fits your style at just about any price point—from a loafer look to something pointed-toe, don't miss out on this ultra-comfortable footwear trend.

Vetements-Inspired Denim

Vetements is one of the hottest fashion brands of the moment right now, with jeans that cost well over $1,000. That price-point is out of reach for most of us, but really, Vetements is just riffing on a classic silhouette—the Levi's 501. The button fly, relaxed-but-high-waisted fit is now one that you can find from most denim lines, so anyone can get this cool girl look.

Metallic accessories and shoes have pretty much always been in style. Gold and silver jewelry? Of course. A pair of silver-tone pumps? Yes. But what about a gold bomber jacket, or a pleated skirt in a metallic faux leather? These kinds of unusual pieces are everywhere this fall, and we love them. This might be the most intimidating trend to try this fall, but don't back away! It's not as hard to pull off as you think.
