And because of that, this tournament was, for much of its history, known as the Greater Hartford Open. It was last played under a variation of that name in 2003; Travelers became the title sponsor in 2007. Entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. was also associated with this event for many years. 2020 Tournament When: June 25-28, 2020 Where: TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. 2019 TravelersA 63 in the third round sent Chez Reavie to victory. Reavie surged several strokes ahead in that round, then a final-round 69 produced a four-stroke victory. Reavie finished at 17-under 263. The runners-up were Zach Sucher and Keegan Bradley. It was Reavie's second career PGA Tour win and happened 11 years after his first at the 2008 RBC Canadian Open. 2018 TournamentBubba Watson won this tournament for the third time, his 2018 victory joining those from 2010 and 2015. Watson fired a final-round 63 to finish at 17-under 263. It was his 12th career PGA Tour win. The runners-up, three strokes behind Watson, were Stewart Cink, Beau Hossler, J.B. Holmes and Paul Casey. It took its current name in 1991. PGA Tour Travelers Championship Trivia and Notes: Legendary entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. was associated with this tournament for 16 years, having his name in the title. The tournament was called the "Sammy Davis Jr. Greater Hartford Open" in 1973, in Davis' first-year as title host, and the "Canon Sammy Davis Jr. Greater Hartford Open" in 1988, Davis' last year of involvement. Arnold Palmer's win in 1956 was just his second victory on the PGA Tour. There were nearly - but not quite - two family "two-fers" in this tournament's history: Sam Snead won in 1955; his nephew J.C. Snead finished second in 1971 and 1976. Dave Stockton won in 1974; Dave Stockton Jr. finished second in 1995. Billy Casper is the tournament leader with four victories. Casper's wins happened in 1963, 1965, 1968 and 1973. Bubba Watson is the only other golfer with at least three wins here. Watson's wins were in 2010, 2015 and 2018. The only back-to-back champ is Phil Mickelson (2001-02). Peter Jacobsen's first win was in 1984; his second didn't come until 2003 when he was nearly 50 years old. That's a 19-year gap between two wins in the same tournament, with no wins in that tournament in-between. The PGA Tour record in that category belongs to Hale Irwin, who won the Heritage Classic in 1973 and again in 1994. More than one-third of the time, this tournament has ended with a playoff. There have been 23 playoffs in Travelers Championship history. At the 2014 tournament, Kevin Streelman set a new PGA Tour record for most birdies in a row at the end of a tournament to win. He made seven consecutive birdies over the final seven holes to win by one stroke. In 2016, in the final round, Jim Furyk became the first golfer in PGA Tour history to shoot 58. That included a 27 on the front nine, and he finished at 12-under par for the round.
