No problem. Even though it can feel like everyone is coupling up, plenty of guys and girls go to prom without a date and they have an absolute blast. Some people go with a group of single friends and dance the night away together. Others go solo and enjoy dancing with a few different guys instead of just one. There’s no rule that says you have to be part of a duo to be at prom. So, if you don’t feel comfortable going with a date, can’t find a date that you like enough to spend an entire evening with, or just want to hang out with your friends all night, live it up! Here are some tips for having an awesome prom, minus the date. Wear Whatever You Want You won’t have to worry about matching your date’s cummerbund or dress or worry about whether they’ll like your ensemble. So shop for something in your favorite color, splurge on those quirky shoes, and wear that top hat if you like. Spend the Money You’d Spend on Your Date’s Corsage or Boutonniere on Yourself No prom date means not having to buy someone else’s prom flowers. Spend the extra money on a new lipgloss or a rad pair of sunglasses. And hey, if you're bummed that no one will be giving you prom flowers, just buy some for yourself! That way, you’re guaranteed to like them. Revel in the Fact That You Won’t Have to Meet a Date's Parents Meeting a guy or girl’s parents for the first time can be so uncomfortable. If you’re going solo, you won’t have to answer any dad’s lame questions or deal with a hovering mom. Bonus: if your parents have a habit of embarrassing you, you won't have to deal with them meeting your date, either! Say Goodbye to Awkward Photos You know those prom pictures where the guy and girl are posed so rigidly, they look like they’re going to fall over? You won’t have to have any of those in your album if you’re going solo. You can still take plenty of photos of yourself and of you and your friends. Just strike a model pose, stare into the lens and own it. Check out these model poses from the pros and practice them for your big night. Find Some Other People Who Are Going Solo You’re probably not the only one who wants to go to prom without a date. Ask around and find some friends who are in the same boat you are. Some friends might even be relieved that they found someone who is going alone, too. Share a limo and plan to go to prom dinner together. Act Like You Don’t Care That You Don’t Have a Date Order whatever you want for prom dinner, dance to every song, sing along at the top of your lungs and hang out with all of your friends. Make it your mission to have fun on prom night, and don’t pay attention to all those couples. Ask Someone to Dance When the first slow song comes on and everyone is coupling up, don’t be shy. You’ll have the option of dancing with whoever you want, so don’t be afraid to ask! Make Post-Prom Plans After prom, you can hang out with anyone you want. You won’t have to worry about whether to spend the after party with your friends or your date’s friends. So plan to go to the school’s after-prom party, your friend’s house, a club, or take off to the beach for the weekend. It’s your choice!
