Margaret Schlachter is a former writer for ThoughtCo who wrote about obstacle racing and extreme sports. Margaret comes from an alpine ski racing background. She coached elite athletes, including women's lacrosse teams, for over 10 years. In 2012, she trained weight loss sensation, Chris Davis, helping him lose over 400 pounds in preparation for the Vermont Spartan Beast competition. Margaret began competing in obstacle races around 2010. She participates in everything from local 5K mud runs to the sport's premier events. These competitive events include the World's Toughest Mudder, the Spartan Death Race, and the Survival Run in Nicaragua.
Margaret traveled the globe, competing in her sport. She continues to seek out the next adventure. She is the founder of the award-winning website, DirtInYourSkirt.com. The site targets women and athletes interested in obstacle racing and is the home to her blog and podcasts. Margaret writes and edits content for numerous publications. As an expert in the field, many exercise and fitness articles and books reference her work. She wrote Obstacle Race Training: How to Beat Any Course, Compete Like a Champion, and Change Your Life (Tuttle Publishing, 1st edition, 2014).
Margaret Schlachter earned a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Vermont in 2016. She also holds a Bachelor Science (B.S.) in Strategic Management from Babson College. Margaret has a CrossFit Level 1 Certification.
