Experience

Maire Loughran is a former writer for ThoughtCo who wrote about starting a crafting business and business accounting. Maire was a certified public accountant (CPA) for 15 years before starting a small crafting business, MaireLoughran's Folk Art. She combines her skills at accounting with the lessons she learned in opening a business in her writing. Maire also taught Accounting, Auditing, and Taxation courses at the university level.

Marie wrote and co-wrote several books about accounting for the popular For Dummies series. These books include Intermediate Accounting for Dummies (For Dummies, 1st edition, 2012), Financial Accounting for Dummies (For Dummies, 1st edition, 2011), and Auditing for Dummies (For Dummies, 1st edition, 2010). 

As a craft business owner herself, she is very familiar with the unique challenges facing the craft business industry. She lectures extensively on how to start a new business, covering such topics as the selection of a business entity, securing business licenses, and tips on sales tax collection.

Maire Loughran holds an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts Education and degrees in Economics and Accounting.
