Ken Schultz is a former writer for ThoughtCo and contributed work for two years. He was an editor, staff writer, and fishing expert for three decades with Field & Stream magazine as well as a principal contributor to that publication’s radio, television, and online ventures. In addition to writing more than 500 full-length feature articles about fishing and fishing-related travel for Field & Stream, Ken was their de facto new fishing products editor.
Ken created and wrote their annual New Fishing Products Roundup, as well as fishing and boating gear reviews, for more than 20 years. He helped establish the Field & Stream “Best of the Best Awards” and tested/selected the annual fishing and boating honorees. He also served as a fishing gear tester and on-camera product evaluator for Outdoor Life Network (later Versus and then NBC Sports Network).
Additionally, Ken wrote a nationally syndicated newspaper column on fishing for 14 years for Gannett News Service. He wrote about sportfishing for the Sports section of the New York Times for more than a decade and contributed to such diverse publications as Outside, Saltwater Sportsman, Bassmaster, Consumer’s Digest, and Kayak Angler. Ken was a television commentator for ESPN Outdoors and Fishing Editor for ESPNOutdoors.com and has been a guest on hundreds of radio shows across North America.
He has written and photographed "Ken Schultz’s Daily Fishing Tips," page-a-day calendar published annually since 2007. An inductee of the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame and former multiple world record holder, Ken has written and photographed nineteen books on sportfishing topics, including Ken Schultz’s Fishing Encyclopedia & Worldwide Angling Guide and The Complete Guide to North American Fishing.
