When you're on the dating scene, it's not uncommon to feel confused, stressed, and even overwhelmed by all of the kinds of dating sites and apps out there today. And since there are so many different ones from which to choose, it can be challenging to navigate which dating site or app is right for you. It also can be difficult to know if you should even join these sites or apps, especially if you keep having bad date after bad date.

But when you're looking to meet someone new, is online dating worth it? Here's why the answer is yes.

1. Dating Sites Work for Many People

The number of happy couples in loving, happy, and healthy relationships who met online keeps growing and growing. So who's to say you couldn't potentially be one those people? By joining a dating site or app, you're opening yourself up to meeting a far greater amount of people than you typically would during your daily life. While it's certainly possible to flirt with someone and swap digits at the grocery star, sports bar, or spinning class, dating sites and apps enable you to expand your horizon to include even more people in your general locale whom you wouldn't necessarily come into contact with during your normal routine.

2. Dating Sites Can Help You Date Smarter

If you're wondering if online dating is really worth it in the end, it's important to remember that it can actually help you date more effectively and more efficiently.

For example, when it comes to your priorities in a potential mate, dating sites are designed to specifically help you connect with people who may share your religious views, vegan diet, height requirements, or any other non-negotiables that you have. Dating sites allow you to approach dating with a more discerning eye so that you can already narrow down and narrow in on what you're looking for in a partner.

3. Dating Sites Don't Have to Cost a Lot of Money

While you may think that dating sites can be a bit on the pricey side, you can always find at least one in your price range, especially since a lot of them are free or have a very minimal monthly subscription. There are definitely pros and cons to both paid and free types of sites, as many people think that joining a paid dating site can help them meet someone who's more serious about finding a partner since they're actually invested (both figuratively and literally) in meeting others. And it can be challenging to determine on a free site if members are truly looking to meet someone or if they joined because they were bored one afternoon. On the other hand, free sites do have many serious daters and being on a paid site doesn't guarantee that you'll connect with someone.

4. Dating Sites Enable You to Be Proactive in Your Romantic Life

If you're trying to determine if online dating is worth it, after all, you should consider how empowering these sites can be. For example, signing up for a dating site is one more way that you're taking control of your dating life and putting matters into your own hands. Dating sites allow you to be proactive by giving you the autonomy to date on your own terms.

You can sign in when you feel like it, search through matches when you're up for it, and be as involved and active as you'd like.

5. Dating Sites Aren't Monumental Risks

When it comes to online dating, it's important to ask yourself what can be lost by signing up for a site. Are you worried about having bad dates? The reality is that you can have a bad date whether you met this person on a site or not, as that's simply how dating works. The dates you go on could turn out to be wastes of time or you could meet someone truly special who's everything you've been looking for and more. You just won't know until you try. So while you may think that dating sites aren't worth it, remember that there's not much to lose—but a lot to gain.
