Irina Vorobieva competed at other world figure skating championships and at the 1976 Olympics she and Alexandr Vlasov placed fourth. She won the European pair skating title in 1981 and won two silver medals (1977, 1979) and two bronze medals (1976, 1982) at four other European figure skating championships. Irina Vorobieva was born on June 30, 1959, in Novosibirsk, Siberia. When Irina Vorobieva was three months old, her family moved to St. Petersburg (which was then Lenningrad). Irina's parents were directors of science institutes and were top government officials in the Soviet Union. Irina Vorobieva began ice skating at the age of seven. She was chosen to train with other promising young Russian figure skaters. She was very talented and athletic and ice skating was easy for her. Irina Vorobieva competed and trained as a singles skater at first. At age twelve, she was matched up with Alexandr Vlasov. The team's rise to the top occurred quickly; by the time Irina was fourteen years old, the couple qualified and competed in international figure skating competitions. Irina Vorobieva was coached by Tamara Moskvina, who is considered the most outstanding pair skating coach in figure skating history. Tamara was her coach and her choreographer. She planned everything and even designed Irina's costumes. Irina Vorobieva and Alexandr Vlasov were the first great pair skating team that Tamara Moskvina developed. Like many Russian figure skating coaches, Irina Vorobieva received a degree from the Academy of Physical Education and Sport. Both became coaches. The couple eventually divorced. Irina lives and coaches in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Igor Lisovsky lives and coaches in St. Louis, Missouri. Before moving to the United States, Irina Vorobieva and Igor Lisovsky performed for many years in a Russian ice skating show that toured the world.
