The term "grading" refers to finding the condition that a comic book is in. When you go to buy a car, an antique, house, or other purchases, you want to know what kind of shape it is in. The grade of a comic book is very similar to a report card grade. The higher the grade, the better the condition the comic book is in.

Grading your own comic books is fun and doesn't take that much time. The key is to be honest and critical about the comic book. Ask yourself if you bought the comic from a friend or an auction site, would you be happy with the grading? Honesty is the best policy when grading comics.
Can Someone Else Do It For Me?:
There are lots of other ways to get your comics graded by others, but it will generally cost you money. The key question here is, is it worth it? Having someone else grade your comic book can actually increase the value of it, but won't do too much if the comic is a dud. One of the main comic book graders out there is CGC - The Comics Guaranty Company. Or, you might see if your local comic book shop can do it as well.
