Open the Seams

Sew around and you're done.

Try on your existing skirt and determine how short you'd like it to be. Mark this point with chalk.

Next, lay the skirt flat and use your seam ripper to cut the seam stitching along the bottom. You're now ready to press and sew your new hem.

Sew the Hem

Fold the hem up so that the bottom of the skirt is in line with your chalk mark. Pin the hem all the way around, then iron the hem removing pins as you go.

Sew the hem of your skirt all the way around. Be sure to use small stitching and a matching thread to prevent your work from showing.

This shorter skirt can be a daring look. It's a good idea to tone it down with some patterned tights. Or for the full DIY look, try pairing this skirt up with your own screen printed shirt.
