How to Fix Overplucked Eyebrows

Help for Tweezers Gone Crazy

Overplucked eyebrows can be seen walking through the Mall, watching the local football game and most definitely surface in the High School lunch line. Along with making a poor frame for the eyes they can create the wrong kind of focal point, and don't work in balance with the other facial features. We tell you how to avoid less than beautiful brows and what you can do to fix them on the double.

How this Mess Happens

Picture a woman gazing in the mirror with tweezers in hand and a look of determination on her face.

She's thinking that if she creates thinner eyebrows, it will take years off. Now imagine a young girl who insists her eyebrows are way too thick and wants to get rid of her friend, the 'caterpillars'.

With a wish and a prayer, they begin removing hair, one by one. Before too long, the shape looks like two half circles and the brows are as thin as Sean Connery's' head. Jumping in with both feet, neither one had a plan or thought of the consequences. Thankfully, this does not have to be your story. Barely-there brows can be avoided or fixed.thought of the consequences. Thankfully, this does not have to be your story. Barely-there brows can be avoided or fixed.

But They're too Thick

If your eyebrows seem too bushy, bulky or long don't start out by removing hair. Sometimes when the excess bulk is gone it makes the world of difference.

Brush the hair up with a clean mascara spoolie and trim the hair with small scissors (see step by step: how to trim eyebrows).

This will help you see more clearly which, if any hair, you want to remove.

Have a Shape in Mind, First

Before you start tweezing, have a game plan. This isn't the time to just 'wing it.' By considering the shape of your face and other features with your own personal style, the brows will start, end and arch all in the right places.

Use a white eye pencil to basically white out the hair you want to tweeze. Then go one by one and take your time. Stop and look after each and every hair pulled. Things can turn south quickly, so go slow and steady.

But your best bet would be to seek out a professional for advice. With your preference and guidance on your style professionals can also shape them and at least get you started for you to follow that line in the future.

Fill for Instant Thicker Eyebrows

If you are well beyond that, don't fret. I will try and get you through the tough road you're experiencing.

First, you can use an eyebrow pencil to define and even create a thicker-looking brow. Choosing a shade that is the same or very close to your brow color is essential to making it look natural and not painted on. If you have a hard time deciding, opt for a neutral color like Billion Dollar Brows Universal Brow Pencil (buy direct).

Create the shape on the bottom of your eyebrow by drawing a soft line in the shape that you need. Then with a slightly lighter shade, you can fill in your brows by using a hair stroke. This is not a line drawn across your brow but rather a short stroke in the direction your hair grows.

An easy hand creates a more natural look rather than a hard dark line.

Complete Kits:

These all come with stencils to help you achieve a great shape, brow pencils or powder and some even have a wax to tame unruly hair. These will allow you to play around with shape and color since they generally have more than one tone to customize the shade yourself. These are great alternatives for those who don't know what shape would best suit them.

Encourage Hair Growth

There are also items out there that will actually help stimulate the hair growth. If you have already over-tweezed and the hair seems to be slow growing back or coming in patchy, you can certainly try products like Talika Lipocils (compare prices) or Brow Relonge (compare prices).

These items, although not exactly inexpensive, can stimulate growth that may give you results in four to six weeks.

To Sum it Up

The best advice I got was to leave my brows alone. It's a challenge but it can be done. Leave the shaping to a professional and you can keep it up with an occasional clean up if you have the will power to stop.
