How Do I Remove My Profile From Plenty of Fish?

Deleting or Hiding Your POF Profile

Clara asks, "Please advise how to remove all profile information from Plenty of Fish. I'm dissatisfied with the results from my free account, and I don't want to pay for an Upgraded Membership. How do I do that?"

Removing Your Plenty of Fish Profile

Closing your POF account is easy, even though it requires a few clicks. Log into your account, and click on the "Help" button at the top of your screen. You'll then see a list of choices along the left-hand side -- choose Remove Profile. Follow the instructions there, and you'll have removed your profile. I've personally checked and confirmed this method works.

Note that once you have deleted your account, it cannot be reactivated. This is, therefore, the nuclear option. Be sure that you truly want to delete your account rather than simply hiding your profile.

Hiding Your Profile Rather than Removing It

Rather than deleting your free account, you may prefer to simply hide it from others. Then, if you change your mind, you won't have to rejoin and recreate your profile. You can see this option also on the Help page in the left-side column. Select Hide Profile to see the instructions. They tell you to go to Edit Profile and click on "To hide your profile from others, click here." When you later want to appear in search results, you can use Edit Profile to unhide your profile from others.

The results of hiding your profile is that it won't appear in any bar of images or in search results. However, some users will still be able to see your profile. These include those you contact after you hide your profile, users who have messages that are in your inbox, those who are on your favorites list as well as those who have you on their favorites list, and people who search for your username in the Username Search.

Remove or Hide Your Plenty of Fish Profile?

Hiding your profile still allows it to be seen by a range of other users, especially those who know your username or have messaged you. If you are trying to avoid those people, you likely want to remove your profile rather than just hiding it. If you've found that special someone and don't want to keep fishing, removing your profile might be the best answer.

If you just aren't pleased with Plenty of Fish, know that online services continuously change. Many users wanted to delete their accounts back in 2010 when POF started charging users to 'get serious' and some POF features were then pay-per-use. The service now says that POF is free for messaging, searching, and their most popular features. An Upgraded Membership is available allows you to upload more images to your profile, unlock other users' Extended Profiles, show up first on Meet Me, see who has viewed your profile and when, and more.
