The Health Benefits of Green Tea

Green tea has many health benefits.  It is a great alternative for people who do not like coffee but still want to the positive benefits of caffeine since green tea has less caffeine than coffee but still enough to keep your focused and awake.

 Green tea might also help ward off certain types of cancer and heart disease, control weight and keep your mouth healthy.  Regular consumption for a decade or more has even shown to have some positive benefits in bone health. In addition, green tea has been shown to help preserve brain function.  How much green tea you need to drink each day in order to experience the benefits described is still being researched.  If you do not like the taste of green tea you could always take green tea extract pills in order to get all the health benefits this drink can deliver.

How Green Tea Can Help Our Skin

Green tea can benefit your skin both when you drink it and when you apply products with green tea in them to your skin.  Green tea is rich in antioxidants, specifically ones called ECGCs, which protect the skin from inflammation and skin aging, and calms skin prone to redness.  You can get these skin benefits from drinking green tea and from using skin care products that contain green tea (usually green tea extract) like  Madre Labs Camellia Care Concentrated Green Tea Skin Cream or Eminence Green Tea and Guava Fortifying Serum.

 

As mentioned, green tea is chock full of antioxidants which means it can calm skin inflammation.  Acne is a sign of inflammation in the skin so using a skin care product with green tea in it will help to calm acne prone skin.  All skin types can benefit from drinking green tea or using green tea skin care products, even those people with the most sensitive skin.

 

Green Tea Powder Face Mask Recipe:  

Take one scoop green tea powder (about 1 tsp) with enough water to make it into a mask-like consistency.  Use matcha green tea powder since this special type of green tea is processed in such a way that it retains even more antioxidants than other types of green tea. Matcha is also a great green tea to drink since it has a unique taste.  

How to Use it:  Apply to your face, neck and chest area with a wide paint brush. It takes about five minutes to completely dry.  Leave on for about 10 minutes before washing off with lukewarm water.

Variations:  Add honey or yogurt to the green tea powder for added moisture. Additionally, if you have regular green tea on hand you can make a mask using that too.  Take the green tea out of a tea bags and mix with honey and a little baking soda.  This mask is also said to help clear up acne.

Noticeable Results: Your skin will be quite smooth after this treatment. Consider using this mask as a spot treatment for breakouts.  You could even apply the mask on your pimples before bed and rinse off in the morning.
