He is also the last amateur skater to legally do a backflip in competition. Immediately after the 1976 Olympic and World Figure Skating Championships where Terry introduced the move, the backflip was banned from all future amateur figure skating competitions. 13 of 15 Tim Wood: 1968 Olympic Figure Skating Silver Medalist (Bettmann Archive/Getty Images) Tim Wood won the World Figure Skating Championships two times. He also won the silver medal in men's figure skating at the 1968 Winter Olympic Games which took place in Grenoble, France. In addition, he won the United States Men's figure skating title three times and was the 1969 North American Figure Skating Champion. After leaving the figure skating world, Wood has used his talents in the world of business and finance but has stayed connected to the sport. 14 of 15 Dick Button - 1948 and 1952 Olympic Figure Skating Champion Bettmann Archive/Getty Images Dick Button was the first American to win an Olympic ice skating title and the only American to win two Olympic gold medals in figure skating. 15 of 15 Ulrich Salchow - 1908 Olympic Figure Skating Champion Wikimedia Commons/Public Domain Ulrich Salchow, the inventor of the Salchow figure skating jump, won the gold medal in figure skating at the Olympics in 1908.
