Elvis is one of just a handful of people that only need their first name to be instantly identifiable. Hundreds of products are still produced under his license, but it's the old stuff that gets the high prices. Shown are a selection of items from various online auction houses. This was the original cover planned for Elvis' Moody Blue album, but because of an error on the album slick, they were all destroyed except for three that were kept by an employee of the printing plant. Cardboard covers were never made with this art. It gets harder and harder to find a real treasure at a thrift store, but it wasn't that long ago that I spied this one. An honest-to-goodness Elvis on Velvet! Suffice it to say, it was meant to come home with me and did. The painting doesn't come out of closet very often, but in celebration of Elvis' birthday, it's on display in a place of honor. (And right after his birthday, it will go back into the dark recesses of the closet.) From Dictionary.com: Kitsch, kich, n. something of tawdry design, appearance, or content created to appeal to popular or undiscriminating taste. 12 of 22 1955 Vinyl Clutch Purse Courtesy of Hake's Americana & Collectibles Set of 66 1956 Elvis Presley CardsCondition: Very GoodAuction Date: June 2008Sold Price: $402.50.* *Includes Buyers Premium of 15% 13 of 22 King Creole Poster Courtesy of Heritage Auctions King Creole Poster, MGM 1957Size: 47" x 63"Condition: Very Fine on linen(restored)Auction Date: November 2008Sold Price: $298.75* *Includes Buyers Premium of 19.5% 14 of 22 White Silk Scarf Courtesy of Heritage Auctions Authentic Silk Scarf that was worn by Elvis on stageSize: 35" x 35"Condition: Very FineAuction Date: October 2008Sold Price: $1434* This scarf was worn onstage by Elvis and taken by his assistant on the morning before Elvis' death.
