Dr. Mitch Fadem is a former writer for ThoughtCo who contributed articles about cigars. A biomedical toxicologist with over 30 years of experience, he was previously a professor at Kent State University, where he taught laboratory safety, toxicology, and environmental health. Fadem was also a visiting professor at the National University of Uzbekistan in Tashkent and the National University of Rosario in Argentina.
In 2010, Fadem returned from his second tour of Afghanistan, where he was the chief toxicology consultant to the senior medical advisor to the NATO commanders in Kabul. He also led the investigation of poisoning incidents of girls’ schools, which became international news. Fadem is multilingual and speaks Russian, German, Spanish, Slovenian, Czech, French, Dari, Turkish, Hebrew, Afrikaans, and Dutch. Now a civilian, he works as a scientific consultant for the Department of Defense.
Dr. Mitch Fadem received a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Toxicology from Columbia Pacific University. He also holds a Master Arts (M.S.) in Music Performance–Woodwinds from the University of Vienna and a master's in Biochemistry from Kent State University.
