The Dollar General Coupon Policy

One of the most frequent questions I receive about the Dollar General coupon policy is whether the stores doubles coupons. At this time, Dollar General does not double coupons -- however, the stores allow shoppers to "stack" coupons. The policies regarding stacking coupons are below.

General Coupon Policies

Customers can redeem manufacturer coupons and Dollar Store coupons at all stores.

The Coupons That Are Accepted Include Those Found In

• Product Packaging
• In-Store Coupon Boxes
• DG Digital Coupons Or Paperless Digital Coupons

The Following Guidelines Apply to Coupons Accepted at Dollar General

• Coupons must be the original - no photocopies.
• They must have a scan-able barcode.
• It is required that an expiration date is printed on the coupon.
• They accept coupons for items sold only at Dollar General.
• The exact same item (package weight, size, etc.). must match the items listed on the coupons, unless otherwise noted.
• The coupons should clearly state “Manufacturers Coupon” or “Dollar General Store Coupon”.

Dollar General Will Not Accept the Following Types of Coupons

• Coupons that fail to scan or have an invalid promotional code.
• Expired coupons.
• Screenshots.
• Coupons for products not sold at Dollar General.
• Free item coupons if printed from the Internet, unless a purchase is required (example: a “buy one, get one free” is acceptable).
• Coupons from other retailers or coupons that may be used only at other retailers.

Coupon Stacking - Using Multiple Coupons

Customers may use a single Dollar General store coupon along with a single manufacturer coupon per single item in a transaction, as long as the coupons do not state otherwise. Combining (also known as stacking) two or more manufacturer coupons per item is not allowed. The stacking of two or more Dollar General store coupons in a transaction is allowed unless otherwise noted on the coupon or within the advertising.

Example of Stacking and Maximizing Savings at Dollar General

Note: When shoppers visit the "Coupon" section at the Dollar General website and click on "Print at Home" coupons, they can select from both Dollar General store coupons and manufacturer coupons. The in-store coupons are marked as such so that shoppers can tell the difference.

To maximize savings, match up coupons with the Dollar General weekly ad. To save even more, shoppers should try to use a Dollar General store coupon and a manufacturer coupon on an item that has been reduced.

Here Is an Example of One Coupon Scenario With the Possible Savings

Based on the weekly ad, Cottonelle Bath Tissue 12 Double Rolls were on sale for $4.95 (regular price: $6.00). The shopper had a manufacturer coupon for $1.00 off and a Dollar General print store coupon for $0.50 off. Based on the coupon policy, the shopper was able to submit both coupons during checkout to reduce the price. Final cost after coupons were applied - $3.45

Also on sale was Purina Dog Chow Natural, 4 to 4.4 pound for $5.00. The shopper had a manufacturer coupon from the newspaper for $4 off and a Dollar General store coupon for $1.50 off. The final price after both coupons would be an actual overage of $0.50 cents that was then applied to the total purchase.

Because the purchase of the Purina Dog Chow would result in an overage, the shopper had come prepared with two Dollar General Store Coupons and two manufacturer coupons. She purchased two bags of the dog food. The final amount paid for both the Cottonelle Bath Tissue and two bags of Purina Dog Chow was only $2.45 total.

You can see by the example how it pays to compare the weekly ads to the coupons that you have available. By doing it before you go shopping, you can make sure that you have printed the coupons necessary to maximize your savings. At the regular price and without coupons, the shopper would have paid $18.00, but instead, the purchase was $2.45. Not bad!

Cash Back and Coupon Overages

If a coupon value is greater than the price of the item, the difference will be applied to the balance of the total transaction. It will not be given back as cash. The applied balance is only applied to the merchandise being purchased and will not be applied to gift cards, prepaid money cards or phone cards. Other restrictions may apply.

Digital Coupons

For shoppers interested in using paperless digital coupons, Dollar General does offer digital coupons as part of the coupon program. These can be found in the Digital Coupon Gallery.

Digital Coupons (DJ Coupons) are loaded directly to a customer's account and then redeemed during checkout by using a phone number. To open an account, visit Dollar General/ Coupon webpage.

Within the Digital Coupon Gallery, there are Dollar General coupons and manufacturer coupons. Coupons labeled as Dollar General coupons can be combined with manufacturer coupons. All other coupons in the Gallery are manufacturer coupons and cannot be combined with another manufacturer coupon on the same item in a single transaction.

Mobile and Text Coupons

Mobile and text coupons are only accepted when they are specifically for Dollar General and have a valid Dollar General promotional code and expiration date. Because these are store coupons, they can be combined with manufacturer coupons that are for the same item in a single transaction.

Only mobile and text message coupons sent from Dollar General are accepted.

Submitting Multiple Types of Dollar General Coupons

In order to maximize savings, it worth noting that if there is a conflict between a digital coupon, print coupon or mobile coupon that is for the same item, only the first coupon presented will be deducted from the transaction, regardless of the value.
