The Ivy League Haircut

I'm a low maintenance kinda guy. A lot of us are. But today's man is more trendy and style conscience than ever. How does guy stay trendy without spending a lot of time doing so? These cool low maintenance haircuts for guys are great options. This happy looking fellow, for example, is working a classic Ivy League Haircut which is cut aggressively close hight up the sides and back. The hair is shorter at the crown and gradually gets longer towards the front. It can be styled as shown, with a neat side part (pomade is a great styling product option) or can be worn dry and loose for a more casual look.

The Clipper Head Shave

A clipper head shave is a great option for men who want the lowest maintenance haircut possible. For this haircut, the hair is buzzed with a clipper set to the closest setting. It an easy haircut to do at home and doesn't require shaving with a razor and shaving cream. A shaved head is a great option for men with thinning hair. Combined with a little facial hair (as this model has done), the focus becomes the face rather than the balding head. This style (or anti-style) is a great option for anyone with a nicely shaped head. Sunscreen is required if you're spending a lot of time in the sun, however, as the scalp is very susceptible to sunburn.

Long Buzzcut with a Beard

The long buzzcut with a beard is a great option for a guy who wants a very masculine, yet low maintenance hairstyle. For this cut, the hair is cut with a number two blade on the sides and back and cut finger length on top (alternatively, the hair can be cut with a long clipper guard on top). The hair can be styled with a bit of paste to add a more groomed look. A short beard that is neatly trimmed and edged adds to the low maintenance aspect by preventing daily shaving of the entire face.

Long Buzzcut

The long buzzcut is one of the easiest haircuts to pull off (and it's the type of buzzcut you can do at home). For this style, the hair is buzzed with a number six guard on top and taken down to a three-guard on the sides and back. The haircut can be worn without product as shown here, but a touch of styling paste can give a slightly groomed look and prevent the "fuzziness" you sometimes get with a longer buzz. For professional work environments, I would combine this haircut with a shirt and tie to present a more put together appearance.

Macklemore Style Undercut

Made popular by hip-hop artist Macklemore, this undercut style haircut is one of the easiest haircuts to give yourself at home and it is certainly a low maintenance trendy style. For this cut, the hair is clipped with a number one blade all the way up the sides and back of the head. There is no blending between the top and sides. The hair is then styled back with the fingers and a little pomade to create a pompadour effect (a blow dryer can be used to add height to the front, if necessary). For this model, a short beard adds a rugged look to this trendy style.

Short Back and Sides with a Spiked Top

This haircut, with its short back and sides and spiked top, is almost a faux hawk. For this style, the hair is clipper cut very short hight up the sides and back. The top is blended with the sides at the round of the head and cut to about an inch and a half on top. Styling wax is applied and the hair is styled up with the fingers. Alternatively, the hair could also be worn forward a swept slightly to the side for a more formal look.

Straight Shag Haircut

A straight shag haircut is a good option for a guy who wants a low-maintenance hairstyle with a longer look. For this style, the hair is razor cut in long layers to add movement and give that shaggy look around the perimeter. For styling, simply add a little styling cream to damp hair and shake. Once the hair is dry, it can be combed through to create a more dry look. This haircut actually reminds me of Steve Jobs' haircut back in the late eighties or early nineties.

Classic Tight Tapered Haircut

The tight taper is a classic barbershop haircut and it is one my all-time favorite men's low maintenance haircuts. This cut never goes out of style and it is appropriate for any age or profession. For this style, the hair is clipper cut with a number one blade around the sides and back and smoothly blends into about two inches on top (the top can be taken longer or shorter depending on your preference). A little styling paste or pomade is applied and the hair is styled loosely back and to the side with the fingers (it can also be worn with a crisp side part for a more formal look).
