Charlie Zegers was a promising power forward... in seventh grade. But he never grew beyond six-foot-one or developed that left hand, and his dreams of playing for Louie Carnesecca's Redmen withered on the vine. As so often happens, he turned his attention to writing about hoops.
Charlie is a freelance sportswriter who has covered the Knicks for MSG.com, fantasy basketball at RotoWire, and basketball in general here at About.com. His work has been featured at NBA.com and Yahoo! Fantasy Sports, and he is a regular guest on the RotoWire Fantasy Sports Hour on Sirius XM Radio. Get Charlie's updates on Twitter @charliezegers.
My cousin was a student at St. John's University during the glory days of Louie Carnesecca, Chris Mullin, Mark Jackson and Walter Berry. Those Johnnies -- and their hated rivals, Patrick Ewing and John Thompson and the Georgetown Hoyas -- were my introduction to college hoops. When Ewing landed with my home town Knicks, my biggest enemy became my greatest friend. I love the game, I love the atmosphere. I love the pick and roll, the no-layup rule and Oakley's Car Wash. I love the passion of the fans, and the fact that the Internet allows fans to connect with each other. And I love the tournament, which is easily the best, most compelling championship in the entire world of sports. I'm no Walter Berry, but I hope this site will serve as your introduction.
