More About Charlie Gibson:

Playing golf has always been a part of Charlie's life. He gravitated to golf because, as he put it, the game allows you to define your own work ethic.

After experiencing success as an adolescent, he earned a golf scholarship to Arizona State University where he captured All-American honors along with future PGA Tour winners Craig Stadler, Curtis Strange, Jay Haas and Peter Jacobsen.

A persistent individual, Charlie went to the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament nine times before playing on the Tour for four seasons. In ensuing years, he played on the Asian Tour, European PGA Tour and the Nationwide Tour.

Charlie, who has played in three U.S. Opens, overcame the dreaded "yips" to become a self-professed great putter. His putting stroke was so bad that for a two-year period, starting in 1975, he would double hit and miss putts from inside two feet. Since 1985, the natural right-hander has putted as a southpaw.

Never daunted, he looks forward to the putting portion of "The Big Break VI" competition. In one 20 year stretch, Charlie estimates there were only 40 days he didn't tee it up. His motivation in the game is pure enjoyment and says that a good day of golf is predicated on getting other people to have fun.
