Every moisturizer here has passed with high marks the exacting standards of the best makeup artists, beauty editors and dermatologists in the business. It was thick and creamy and I tried it on my super parched legs. Wow. It was incredibly moisturizing, unlike anything I'd ever tried before. Turns out the petrolatum in it helps lock moisture in so things like cold wind and furnace heat won't sap your skin of it's moisture. You can buy Cerave at drugstores which is a bonus. Love this stuff. Best Drugstore Moisturizer for Body: Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream You can't go wrong with Cetaphil, Eucerin or Neutrogena moisturizers when you are in your drugstore beauty aisle, but Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream is a beauty editor favorite. It's not too thick and leaves skin perfectly moisturized. When looking for a good skin cream, look for glycerin or hyaluronic acid. These pull water to the skin. Petroleum helps skin retain moisture, which is why you want to apply when skin is slightly damp. The Ultimate Moisturizer: Creme de la Mer Moisturizers truly don't get better than this. But be ready to hand over your salary. You won't believe the price tag on this stuff. But there's a reason beauty editors and celebrities swear by this stuff. Stop by a counter at a department store and ask to try a swipe on your hand. It's silky, creamy and fabulous. I tried out a tester around my eyes one month and was surprised at the plumping properties. Best Body Moisturizer for Super, Dry Skin: Aquaphor Healing Ointment A few years ago, I read that Lucy Liu's favorite all-time beauty product is Aquaphor Original Ointment. She stated she rubs it on everything, her lips, her legs and even her face in winter (to keep the wind from chapping her skin). So I had to buy it. In the winter, nothing works like this to keep my legs from shriveling up in the New York wind. It works by keeping the moisture in, while blocking wind, heat and cold from sapping your skin of moisture. Put some on your feet and sleep in socks and your feet will be super soft. The only downside to Aquaphor is the texture. It can feel like you're slathering your body in Vaseline. A little goes a long way. Best After-Shower Body Moisturizer: Extra Virgin Organic Coconut Oil For years after I moved to New York I suffered from the most excruciating itchy dry legs. The furnace heat in buildings just sapped my legs of all moisture. I tried some beauty editor favorites, which did the trick (hello giant tub of Aquaphor, see above) but I couldn't stand the feel of it on my legs. It was sticky like Vaseline. Then I found out about natural oils and the benefits of extra virgin coconut oil and safflower oil. I use extra virgin coconut oil (you can cook with it too) in the shower. It's silky, smooth and a little goes a long, long way. Safflower oil is another great after-shower bet and both are great for shaving. Tip: Try applying oil after you cleanse skin. Then rinse off excess oils. Great on Super Dry Skin: Udderly Smooth Udder Cream Originally developed for use on dairy cows, Udderly Smooth is recommended by dermatologists to those suffereng from dry skin. I use this on my legs and love how moisturizing it is without leaving my skin greasy. A Great Body Butter: Bliss Naked Body Butter From Jen Adkins, About's former expert on skincare: "Body Butters are fantastic for intense, long lasting moisture. These are perfect for the long cold winter when skin is prone to dehydration. Formulated to be the thickest moisturizer, the consistency does seem almost butter-like." Adkins recommends Bliss Naked Body Butter in her wonderful article What Type of Hydrating Moisturizer Should I Choose? Love Oils? You Can't Go Wrong With Almond Oil I love the smell of almond oil on my skin (as does my boyfriend), and I also love the feels of oils over moisturizers sometimes, so almond oil is my go-to oil after coconut oil. It's great for skin. Best Lotion With Fragrance: Kai Body Lotion I think this stuff smells AMAZING. I like to use it on my chest and arms when I feel like a change of fragrance. Kai's lotion not only has it's amazing signature fragrance, but is made of wonderful ingredients including safflower seed oil, shea butter, apricot kernel oil, and cucumber fruit extract. My husband loves this lotion on me. I'm convinced it's what made him fall in love (wink).
