Wearing open-toed shoes for a cocktail party or headed to the beach for the first time this year? Or maybe you just hate to waste an hour at a spa during your busy weekend? Here’s how to give yourself a flawless at-home pedicure in under seven minutes. (Yes, really!)

You’ll need:

  • Nail polish remover
  • Nail file
  • Foot lotion (like Kerasal One Step Exfoliating Moisturizer Therapy)
  • Quick-dry polish (like Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Color)

Remove Old Nail Polish

The first step to a flawless pedi is to remove your old nail polish. You probably don’t think twice about what nail polish remover you use, but it does make a difference to the health of your nails. Use a non-acetone based polish remover, because it is more gentle and won’t dry out nails. OPI Expert Touch Lacquer Remover has Vitamin E, aloe vera and grapeseed oil to moisturize cuticles and nails in one easy step.

File Toenails

Unless your toenails are really long, file nails, instead of clipping them. Filing allows for greater control of the length and the shape to give you a prettier pedi. File the edges of the nails at an angle for a softer shape.

Massage Feet

Use a foot lotion with alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), like Kerasal One Step Exfoliating Foot Lotion. AHA’s gently exfoliate dry skin, allowing the moisturizer to fully absorb. This lotion, in particular, is sheer and light, so you can put your shoes on minutes after applying without your feet feeling greasy. Pay special attention to your heels and other rough areas as you massage the moisturizer in. Take an extra minute to enjoy the sensation and give tired tootsies extra TLC.

Polish Toenails

Use a toe separator to keep toenails from hitting each other and potentially smudging your polish. Paint toes with a quick dry polish. The benefit to a quick dry polish, like Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Color, is that you don’t need to bother with a base coat or top coat—it’s a three-in-one. This polish has an extra-large brush to coat nails quickly. The polish really does dry in about 60 seconds.

  • A sheer pink polish on longer toenails gives an instant French pedicure and won’t show chips as readily.
  • A classic red nail polish will go with most colored shoes.
  • Use a foot lotion nightly to keep heels and feet soft in between pedicures.
