Learn about our Editorial Process Updated on 04/16/19 The Sixth House is considered a "work house," along with the Second and Tenth Houses. But it's about career as much as the little tasks that keep your life together. These are all the Earth element houses, and they concern real life: structure, routine, habits, and physical health. When you're on vacation, you go off your daily routine and that can feel strange. This is the house of refining things to find that balance that feels healthy. It's easy to see how this house shows what brings up worry. After all, stress comes mostly from what we do each day, and sometimes what we DON'T do. The daily routine is a work-in-progress, but it can become an obsession if you're a Sixth House person (with a lot of planets here). The Sixth House is where your "personal assistant" lives, the one that keeps your day planner up to date. The Daily Doings At the end of the day, what goes on in the Sixth House determines how productive you feel. Did you use your time and resources well? Did you find a rhythm of work that felt satisfying? How can you refine your day? These are Sixth House questions that are influenced by planets and transits moving through it. Many of Us Want to Feel Useful A dynamic Sixth House (with Sun or Mars) animates your working life and makes it a huge part of your identity. A Sixth House full of challenges (Saturn, Pluto, or difficult aspects) makes it hard to find jobs, get along with co-workers, or find any kind of daily discipline. Venus in the Sixth House gives you an easy rapport with others at work, making it feel like a party. The sign on the Sixth House cusp further directs the atmosphere of work that suits you best. Besides the tasks related to work, the Sixth House is about the daily hours and how you fill them. This includes things like exercising, volunteering, and hobbies you cultivate. It's to do with small animals, like the pets we share our lives with. A well-rounded Sixth House has all the ingredients for mental-spiritual-physical balance. Virgo's influence means the day's unfolding is constantly refined to make the most of what you've got. The details matter, and small changes add up on the path to the ideal. The Sixth House defines health, which is often an outcome of how the rhythm of the day is managed. It's also the sphere of purification, through diet, spiritual practice, natural remedies, and detoxing. The way you deal with physical limitations comes up in this house. Will you be challenged with disease? Sometimes this is mirrored in the Sixth House, or with a transit to that house. It's the house of the hard slog, the patient perseverance that eventually leads to an inner sense of accomplishment. But it's also the house of flow when you're in that zone, and all is well. The Sixth House inherits Virgo's restless need to juggle the parts to find wholeness and the self-critical journey that can both harm and heal.
