Experience

Andrew Grant is a former writer for ThoughtCo who covered the topic of Bollywood — nickname for Hindi-language film industry in Mumbai (Bombay) — for two years. Andrew works as a film critic, distributor, and producer; and currently is based in Berlin, Germany.

However, Andrew grew up in New York City, which is where his interest in Bollywood movies began. As a teenager, Andrew often would escape to the Bombay Cinema on West 57th Street, which at the time was the only theater in the city that showed first-run films from India.

In 2006, Andrew founded Benten Films — a DVD distribution company that releases both American and international independent cinema, and has offices in New York and Berlin. And in 2008, he co-founded Unknown Pleasures — a site that presents reviews and screening schedules of independent American films made outside of the mainstream film industry. As a critic, Andrew has contributed to online venues such as Eye for Film and Mubi.
